The Nereid does not land on Canyon Myst so much as arrive—battered and listing, its hull asking for mercy from a shore that has never offered it cheaply. What the crew finds is something the charts don't record: an island that seems too lush, too generous, too beautiful to be trusted. Paradise, in Airovale's universe, always has a price not yet named.
The villagers welcome them with a warmth that feels genuine because it is—Canyon Myst's hospitality is real. What isn't visible yet is the architecture beneath it: the fae guardians, the laws they enforce, the ancient arrangement between human settlers and the island's true keepers. Olga enforces the bathing ritual with the authority of someone who knows exactly what the jungle contains. The aeronauts do not, yet.
This episode is about the experience of entering a world governed by rules you haven't been given. Every strange custom, every polite redirection, every closed door after dark—these aren't quirks. They're the shape of a system the crew will need to understand before they can leave. Canyon Myst doesn't warn you. It simply waits for you to learn.
This collage captures the supernatural turn at Canyon Myst. A lone airship, lost to a weeks-long storm above the clouds, arrives at an island where none should be. The Mystics offer repair and shelter as unseen fae move through the woods. Relief quickly curdles into suspicion as the crew questions a deliverance that asks for nothing.
"Canyon Myst" by Jef Gray — a rock-infused ballad inspired by the mysterious island of the same name. After exhausting the last of their fuel, the crew of the Nereid descends for a dangerous landing and encounters a remote community where fae and humans coexist in rare harmony. The travelers are met with unexpected generosity, receiving supplies, hospitality, and aid to repair their damaged ship. Yet beneath the kindness lies an urgent desire for them to leave as quickly as possible. When the crew discovers immense riches hidden within the island's caves — enough wealth to return home as kings — they begin to understand the truth. Nothing on Canyon Myst is freely given, for the island itself carries magic within its veins.
